We enjoyed the beautiful drive enroute to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway. The scenery is simply stunning as you view the Columbia Glacier and big horn sheep on the roadside. As we neared Jasper, we stopped at Athasbasca Falls. It is a short stroll from the parking lot to view the power of the thundering falls and well worth a visit.
Our long anticipated arrival at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was exciting as we drove under the welcoming wooden arches. The lodge reminded me of the movie setting for “Dirty Dancing!” There are cabins along Lake Beauvert and a main lodge for dining. We checked into our lake front suite and marveled at our view of the lake. The room felt like a plush mountain cabin with a stone fireplace and a lovely spot for coffee and tea.
We enjoyed a happy hour on our balcony with the thoughtful gift basket from the hotel stocked with local beer, pretzels, mustard, nuts and smoked sausage. After S’mores provided by the cheerful hotel staff, we enjoyed a peaceful evening along the lake with the sound of the loons and sunset at 10:20 p.m.
